Sierra Slowed Mac 2010 16g RAM

Hi-

After the upgrade everything slowed down considerably. I did a factory reset and it's still very slow.

Just to give you an idea- opening safari and trying to type a search the pin wheel shows up doesn't show the text for 30+ seconds.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have a 27" iMac from Mid 2010. It uses an SSD as a boot drive, has an i7 quad core, and 16Gb of RAM (hardware didn't support more RAM).

The only time I see the pinwheel is when doing some heavy multitasking (video/audio editing, and things like web surfing). It does seem to happen sooner than in the past.

I close down (Quit) ANYTHING not actively being used (old habit from Windows days). That includes not keeping more browser tabs open than I am actively using).

About once a year I do a complete clean of the drive structure using DiskWarrior and use the macOS Disk Utility tool about every 6 months to check/fix (First Aid) both the SSD and the legacy spinning drive. Invariably, one or both of them find some file structure issues to fix.
